HOPELESS PLACE

Now before I start this post I want to make one thing very clear, I cannot stand Rhianna. But suddenly her stylist has come over all Corinne Day and made what may just be one of my favourite music videos in terms of styling. From the Pretty Woman suspender crop tops, to the double stacked creepers and American flag print denim, metal collar tips and acid bleached denim, the look is pure grubby London girl cool and wouldn't be out of place in an I-D magazine shoot. I also love the cinematography of the video in terms of the compositions of the shots as well as the flower projections and the contrast they creative against the urban setting. I would love to know who was involved in making the production but have had no luck looking online, so drop me a comment if you have any ideas. On top of it all, Rhianna's co-star is delicious and she pukes ribbons, some girls just have it all eh.

I dedicate this post to two of my best friends Eve and Cherry because secretly I think we all want to be Rhianna in this video.

A SINGLE MAN

With my Mum's Lovefilm membership at hand i've made it my mission to watch all of the films I wish I had seen, and this was one of the first to drop through the letter box. I can only urge you to watch it yourself, with Tom Ford as Director as well as playing roles within the Production and Screen Writing, the film was sure to be visually beautiful and it truly is. I love films in which every tiny aspect of mise en scene has been clearly considered and constructed to aid our understanding of the narrative and this film is no exception. The films tells the story of A Single Man, Colin Firth, and his struggles living life after his partner tragically dies. I'm also keen to note that the theme of homosexuality is treated so subtly and beautifully but an actor you perhaps wouldn't expect to cast in such a role. 

GLASTONBURY

And while i'm on the subject of festival vibes...

You have got to watch this video. It's stunning and got me pining for Glastonbury to come around again, so many memories of getting weirded out in the surreal layers of Shangri La, finding secret sets in The Park and chilling at 5am by the Stone Circle. Being with the best people, waiting for the gorgeous sun to rise again, ready for another day at where is truly my favourite place on earth. 

(I'm not feeling the intro but the visuals are so gorgeous, they sent a shiver!)

Seriously, it's a pretty stylish place to be.

Little fact: Corinne also photographed Pete Doherty of The Libertines and Babyshambles for this shoot, she got him to pose with an £8000 Martin Margiela Designer Snake. Doherty proceeded to throw the faux reptilian into the crowd after 30 seconds of his performance and it was ripped to shreds.

BLACK SWAN

I put off watching this, didn't expect to like it.

BUT was definitely wrong, checked it out last night and thought is was amazing. Loved the contrast of innocent and real darkness, the animalisticness..which totally isn't a word and also the casting. So if you think it's going to be a bit girly and pathetic and like me have avoided watching Black Swan until now...have a watch.

Haze

I think I felt the 1970's coming.

I'm gagging for a rummage in the vintage shops to find the perfect pieces to channel the look with once the sun comes out.

But until then i'm loving the sunny haze that makes imagery look so 1970's.

And Sofia Coppola's Virgin Suicides encapsulate that era of hazy innocent sleaziness in her gorgeous film Virgin Suicides. 

I'm loving the portrayal of 1970's cheek in the Orla Kiely ads....

..and researching these ads has led me to the amazing photographer Venetia Scott, who's just shot straight to the Top 5 of my favourite fashion industry names. And her CV is enough to make you weep.

Mega weirdly..I know Stan in the last photo, we met at Glastonbury and hung out over the summer.
